    Director Research

    A Sarsn

Ashrita Saran has over ten years of experience in international development research; she has led and authored significant methods papers, systematic reviews, and evidence and gap maps. She has a strong publication record, having authored more than twenty papers in peer-reviewed journals on critical topics, particularly people with disabilities, child well-being, violence against children, economic and financial evaluations on women, children, and adolescents’ health, and climate-smart agriculture.  She also led an internationally recognised methods paper on evidence-mapping approaches that informed Campbell’s evidence and gap map guidelines.

Her notable work includes leading the development of a series of evidence products on people with disabilities funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCDO) in collaboration with experts in the field. Her contributions are multifaceted, from developing evidence products and rapid evidence assessments to her role as an advisory board member for an evidence-mapping project on children with disabilities and her presentations at prestigious international conferences. Saran’s professional roles have consistently demonstrated her exceptional leadership and expertise in evidence synthesis and systematic reviews. As Deputy Director at the Global Development Network, she led scoping reviews on economic evaluations of health and rapid evidence assessments on disaster risk reduction and educational interventions for individuals with disabilities. Her strategic partnerships with key stakeholders like WHO/PMNCH, FCDO, and UNICEF have not only secured substantial funding for her initiatives but also demonstrated her ability to collaborate effectively. Saran was the Principal Investigator on projects focusing on disabilities and climate-smart agricultural practices for women farmers. Her leadership in the production of a policy-friendly survey on adolescent needs that garnered wide dissemination is another testament to her capabilities. As the founding executive director of Campbell South Asia, she successfully set up the Campbell South Asia office as an independent regional centre, built partnerships with national funders. She enhanced Campbell South Asia’s visibility within a year.

In addition to her leadership roles, Saran has been actively involved in various editorial and advisory capacities, such as editing Campbell’s Climate Solutions and serving as an Associate Editor for Health Research Policy and Systems.
